A culturally immersive dining atmosphere rooted in spatial warmth and material authenticity.

The Chinese Restaurant interior design project explores how spatial design can create a culturally resonant dining experience — one that communicates identity, tradition, and atmosphere through every element of the interior. The brief called for an environment that is both authentic and inviting, drawing on traditional Chinese spatial references without resorting to surface-level pastiche.

The design draws from principles of Chinese spatial organization — the use of layered thresholds, intimate enclosures within larger volumes, lantern-like lighting, rich red and dark timber tones, and lattice screen patterning. These elements are deployed with restraint and precision, creating a unified interior language that rewards close attention.

Material selection was guided by warmth and tactility: dark lacquered timber, woven natural fibres, polished stone, and considered brasswork compose a palette that is sophisticated and welcoming. Lighting design establishes a warm intimacy through layered artificial light sources — ambient, accent, and decorative — creating a rich evening ambiance.
